A lorry carrying rice was traveling from Nuwara Eliya to Badulla and overturned a 50 feet cliff in Haggala area.
The Nuwara Eliya Police stated that the co-driver of the lorry who was injured in the accident was admitted to the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital with injuries.
The accident happened yesterday (05) at around 04.00 pm near the big bend located below the Haggala Botanical Garden on the Nuwara Eliya-Badulla main road.
The police mentioned that a house was also severely damaged due to the overturning of the lorry and no one was inside the house at the time, so a major accident was avoided.
The residents of Haggala request that this area is an area where accidents have occurred a lot and speed limits should be imposed on the road.
The lorry sustained heavy damage in this accident and the police suspect that the cause of the accident was a sudden mechanical fault in the lorry which was running.
