In another month or so, there will be no need for new evidence that this beautiful island, Sri Lanka, will become a living hell. Corrupt politicians, corrupt government officials as well as corrupt civilians are responsible for this.
We never expect anyone to be imprisoned and we suffer, but people who are raped by the corrupt system will be punished somehow.
A short while ago, Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa was sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labor by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. He was also fined Rs. 100,000 and sentenced to another six months in prison if he did not pay the fine.
There is also a very important part of this judgment. That is to say, state officials have also been wronged and given a verdict. The ruling states that state officials have abused their political power. The court directed that a copy of the decision be forwarded to the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs. This judgment is a lesson to all public servants who make decisions outside of their public service on the basis of political expediency, and also sends a message to all public servants that they must act now to maintain their public service properly in line with the work being done in compliance with the law.
Also, all public servants who have committed this offense and even given their public service should be severely punished.
