The Donier-type maritime surveillance aircraft belonging to the Indian Navy, which was promised to be provided to Sri Lanka free of charge for the initial two years, has been handed over to Sri Lanka today (15).
Indian High Commissioner Gopal Bagle officially handed over the aircraft to President Ranil Wickremesinghe at Katunayake.
Indian Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral Satish N Gormade also participated in this event and in 2018 Sri Lanka has handed over this aircraft belonging to the Indian Navy to Sri Lanka in response to a request made by the Government of India.
The Donier-228 aircraft donated to Sri Lanka is a maritime surveillance aircraft and thus has a unique ability to carry out surveillance activities in sea areas.
The specialty of this is that 15 members of the Sri Lankan Air Force have received 04 months of special training in India to fly these planes.
