The Beruwala Medical Officer of Health’s office has revealed that an Omicron infection has been identified in the China Fort area in Beruwala.
The administrative public health inspector Muditha Amarasinghe said that the person was preparing to go abroad and that a PCR test had identified him as an infected person.
A subsequent genetic test revealed that he was infected with the omicchron variant.
The person is a gem trader by profession and several of his close associates have been sent under house quarantine, the Public Health Inspector said.
It is also stated that all the gem traders in the area will be subjected to a PCR test today (03).
