The 22nd Commonwealth Games is being held in Birmingham, England this year and it is reported that a player and a senior official of the Sri Lankan team have gone missing on the fifth day of the festival.
The manager of the Sri Lanka judo team and a judo player are said to be missing.
Initial reports indicate that they have disappeared from the Sri Lankan camp after losing the first round match held yesterday (01).
By now, the team’s management officials have been informed about the incident, and Birmingham Metropolitan Police have also started a special investigation.
Retired Major General Dampath Fernando, head of the Sri Lankan team, has stated that he will keep all the passports of the Sri Lankan team in his custody to prevent further disappearances like this.
A 110-member sports team has been presented representing Sri Lanka for the Commonwealth Games this year, which includes 51 officials.
