AN ERUPTION ON THE LOWER KADUGANNAWA MOUNTAIN PEAK

The Director General of the National Building Research Organization, Engineer Asiri Karunawardena stated that a crack about 100 meters above the fruit stalls in the lower Kadugannawa area has been discovered.

He pointed out that part of the mountain had become unstable due to heavy rains and that water from the top of the mountain had penetrated into some of the cracks and that initial steps should be taken to close those cracks.

He also said that the sloping area above the main road should be taken into consideration and the necessary solutions should be provided and then the road would be reopened.

He said that due to the inclement weather, the research work and the restoration of the road have been hampered and a report will be submitted within two weeks.
