In the first week of this month, 516 people were arrested for violating excise laws.
According to the Excise Department, the raids were carried out from November 01 to November 08.
Accordingly, 391 persons were arrested for violating the Excise Act and 73 persons for violating the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
It is reported that 52 persons have been arrested for violating the Tobacco Tax Act and the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act.
The Excise Department stated that cases exceeding Rs. 05 million were seized.
The Excise Department further stated that action will be taken to impose maximum penalties on 87 excise licensed establishments for violating the excise license conditions.
