Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena has instructed the Central Bank to release more than a thousand containers of essential items, including essential goods, stranded in the Colombo port due to the dollar crisis.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Trade stated that action was taken to submit a report to the Central Bank today (06) containing the goods details of the importers.
The Ministry of Commerce further stated that there was a discussion between the Minister of Trade and the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal in this regard and it was decided to issue the required dollars to the importers tomorrow (07).
