Dr. Nalin Ariyaratne, director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Colombo said that nearly 900 dengue cases have been identified in the last 10 days of September, and that there has been a significant decrease in the number of dengue cases, but with the current rainy conditions, an increase in the mosquito population can be expected. “Last month, we had about 5,000 cases and in 10 days of this month, almost 900 cases have been reported. Especially, the Western Province accounts for nearly 50% of the total number of cases. However, comparing last month and this month, According to the data of the month, we are observing a significant decrease in the number of patients. The daily number of patients has come down from a high level to a state where 100 to 125 patients are reported per day. There is a risk that the mosquito population will increase.”
