A DATE WILL BE FIXED TO HEAR THE COMPLAINTS AGAINST SANATH NISHANTHA.


It is reported that the Court of Appeal has set today (27) to hear the complaints against the Minister of State, Mr. Sanath Nishantha, who is accused of insulting the court, on the 27th of October.

These petitions were called today (27th) before the bench of judges consisting of Mr. Justice Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne and Mr. Chamath Morayas of the Court of Appeal, where the respondent Mr. Sanath Nishantha also appeared in the court.

The Deputy Solicitor General Miss Lakmini Girihagama, who appeared for the Attorney General, stated before the court that according to the notice given under the Evidence Ordinance in relation to these complaints, the defendant has been given access to examine the evidence and related reports have been submitted.

Accordingly, the Deputy Solicitor General requested the court to set a date for the hearing of this complaint.

These three complaints have been filed against Mr. Sanath Nishantha for allegedly insulting the court by making a statement about the procedure followed by the magistrates in granting bail to the activists during a press conference held at the head office of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna on or around August 25, 2022.

The Sri Lanka Judicial Officers Association, lawyers Mr. Priyalal Sirisena and Mr. Vijitha Kumara have submitted these complaints
