It is reported that the people have been in a lot of trouble due to a gang extorting money from tourists on Mirissa Secret Beach, Pem Uyan Watta road.
It is said that an organized criminal called Beta and a drug smuggler put sharp weapons on the necks of tourists traveling on that road and extort money.
It is reported that although local residents and tourists have informed the police on several occasions, no response has been applied so far.
It has also been revealed that an amount of 500 rupees is taken as extortion from one person and tourists who do not pay it have to be attacked.
