China has unveiled a new map showing that it owns 80% of its ocean area, including disputed islands in the South China Sea, and foreign media have reported that many countries claiming their rights in the South China Sea have protested.
China has also claimed its right to the islands belonging to the maritime boundaries of several South-East Asian countries, and this map has indicated that the Spatli and Parcel islands, which are considered rich in resources, are within its legal territorial waters.
In this regard, Vietnam has stated that the new map of the South China Sea that China has unveiled using a 1947 map violates its country’s sovereign maritime rights, and that it is an invalid map.
The Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia have also rejected China’s new map, and the Indian authorities have further stated that according to the map, an area belonging to Arunachal state of India is also under the control of China.
