It is reported that Galaha police have arrested seven members of a group that cut telephone wires and electric wires across the country with the aim of extracting copper.
They were arrested while cutting the telephone lines from Galaha Nillamba to Halwatta belonging to the Telecom Company.
They have been cutting the wires as employees of the telecom company wearing uniforms and the two tricycles with the logos and name of the telecom.
Yesterday (2) until 7:00 p.m., the police suspected that the cables were being cut and removed by staying on the telephone poles and investigated the matter.
About two kilometers of cables have already been cut and loaded into three-wheelers and another part is hidden under a culvert on the road, it has been revealed that they are not telecom workers.
These suspects, who reside in Nuwara Eliya, Ramboda and Kadugannawa areas, have been arrested after they were identified as a group of people who went to different parts of the country to cut wires and look for copper in them.
Two three-wheelers, ladders and many tools were also taken into custody by the police.
On the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Gampola Division Pradeep Ratnayake, Chief Inspector of Police Galaha Police Station Chief Inspector Saman Gunasekara, Crime Division Station Commander Police Inspector Sugath Wijesinghe, Police Sergeant Silva (57833), Ranasinghe (47224), Police Constables Kumara (101313), Herat (57844), Anjana (103871) officials have conducted investigations on this.
