At the meeting of the Central Provincial Coordination Committee held at the Kandy District Secretariat, the Central Provincial Governor’s lawyer Lalith U. stopped the decision taken to divide 20 plots of land in the Hantana highly sensitive environmental zone. He has mentioned that the city of Kandy had to face an acute shortage of drinking water in 1993, and the main reason for this was the environmental damage in the highlands, and that further investigation should be done regarding land parcelling.
