Previously, it was implemented to give licenses for the import of fully electric vehicles to the people engaged in overseas jobs if their incomes have been legally remitted to Sri Lanka. According to this, the foreign workers can import electric vehicles to Sri Lanka from 01.05.2022 to 31.12.2022. Based on the amount of foreign exchange remitted, they were given the opportunity to import the desired electric vehicles.
It is reported that the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the further extension of the scheme of granting licenses to import fully electric vehicles to Sri Lankans employed abroad and it is reported that the scheme of granting licenses has been extended till 23.09.2023.
Also, Minister Bandula Gunawardena has stated that they will have a great privilege through this, joining the press conference to announce the decisions of the Cabinet.
