It is reported that the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, has instructed the National Livestock Development Board to take steps to immediately stop the illegal gem mining carried out by outsiders at Ambewela Dairy Farm and to initiate an investigation.
It is expected that the land belonging to the Ambewela dairy farm has the highest and most valuable gems in the country and currently the farm is being leased to the private sector and is being managed very successfully.
The Minister further advised the National Livestock Development Board and stated that information has been received that some outsiders are sneaking into this land and carrying out gem mining, and to intervene immediately to stop those activities.
