A news has been reported from Veniwelara area of Suriyawewa police domain that the husband poisoned his wife and tried to commit suicide due to having to spend a lot of money on his wife’s illness and not having sufficient economic status for it.
A 58-year-old and 54-year-old husband and wife living in Suriyawewa Venivelara have tried to commit suicide by drinking poison.
The 54-year-old wife has been confined for a long time due to a disability in the spine and the husband has to spend a lot of money to treat her illness.
On Independence Day around 4.30 pm, the husband took her for treatment for her illness and did not have enough economic status to live and work.
The husband also tried to commit suicide after poisoning his wife who was in one place.
Neighbors admitted the husband and wife who were in critical condition at home due to poisoning to Suriyawewa Hospital for treatment and were transferred to Hambantota General Hospital for further treatment.
Locals also said that the woman had been suffering from an illness for a long time, and the couple was deeply frustrated because they did not have the economic status to get treatment for it.
