IF TAX CONCESSIONS ARE NOT GIVEN, THE COUNTRY WILL FALL INTO THE ABYSS

Mrs. Tania S. Abeysundara, President of the Sri Lankan United Businessmen’s Association, said today (08) in Colombo that if the government does not provide tax relief to small and medium businessmen as soon as possible, all businesses will be crippled by next April and if that happens, it is inevitable that hundreds of thousands of people will lose their jobs. This was reported while holding a press conference.

It is reported that Mrs. Abeysundara said that small and medium scale industries should not be destroyed by the current government and officials together and that central bank governors should issue a circular to the banks not by word of mouth but to give concessions to the businessmen.

She also reported that the value of the dollar has increased as the demand for the dollar has decreased as small and medium-sized businesses have accumulated large stocks of imported raw materials and products.
