It is reported that President Ranil Wickramasinghe has informed the group of ruling party MPs that due to the increase in liquor tax, the use of legal alcohol has decreased and the use of Kasippu has increased and the International Monetary Fund has been informed and attention has been paid to reducing the liquor tax.
In the meeting of the ruling party MPs held in the parliament, the people have discussed the increase in the use of kasippu.
The President has stated this.
“The decrease in alcohol consumption is due to the increase in the price of alcohol. There are two options for this. A reduction in liquor tax or a reduction in the price of a bottle of liquor in the budget. Otherwise, the people will die by drinking kasippu.”
Minister of State Chamara Sampath Dasanayake has announced by drawing the attention of the President.
Here the President has also stated that he also accepts that the use of Kasippu has increased. The International Monetary Fund was informed about this. They don’t know about Kasippu. The fund is talking about reducing alcohol consumption by increasing alcohol taxes. In the next round of negotiations, let’s talk with data and get relief,” the President emphasized.
