LABOR BOSS WHO TOOK BRIBE REMANDED.

It is reported that Colombo Chief Magistrate Mr. Prasanna Alwis today ordered the remand of a Labor Department official who received a bribe of ten thousand rupees to not enforce the law against a hotel owner who allegedly did not pay welfare funds to the employees.

The suspect named Ibra Lebbe Abdul Nasser, a resident of Maradamun, who was arrested by the bribery or corruption investigation officers on the 19th, was remanded.

Mr. Sisira Kumara, Sub-Inspector of the Investigation Commission has stated to the court that the suspect who works in the Ampara Labor Office has taken this bribe money in order not to enforce the law regarding the non-payment of employee benefit funds.

The suspect was arrested based on a complaint made by the hotel owner and the suspect was further remanded in custody as investigations are being carried out to seize the phone records and documents of the Labor Department.

After considering the facts, the Chief Magistrate has ordered the suspect to be remanded until tomorrow.
