The railway department has announced that the road section from Mahawa to Anuradhapura will be closed for 6 months from the 7th of next January due to the modernization of that section.
This is being done under the second phase of the project to modernize the railway line between Mahawa and Omanthe on the Northern Railway and accordingly, the department has further stated that during that period trains will run only from Colombo to Mahawa and from Anuradhapura to Kankasanthure.
