It is reported that when a group of representatives of the International Fund for Agricultural Development met the Minister of Agriculture yesterday afternoon (13), the fund expressed its agreement to cultivate 16,000 hectares of maize in Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, targeting the districts of Anuradhapura, Hambantota, Monaragala, Polonnaruwa and Ampara, this project is scheduled to be started in the next season and for this, high quality hybrid seeds, chemical fertilizers and financial facilities required for land preparation will be provided to the farmers on the basis of non-recovery. The Ministry of Agriculture has stated that it will be given.
