It is reported that a memorandum of understanding was signed today (12) between the French government and the Sri Lanka Maritime Environment Protection Authority to monitor oil spills from ships entering Sri Lanka’s territorial waters through satellite technology.
Incidents of oil spills from ships coming to the coast of Sri Lanka were reported last season, and due to the severe impact on the marine life and marine ecosystem of Sri Lanka, the MoU has been signed in relation to monitoring these situations.
