It is reported that Dr. Harshada Silva, the Colombo District Member of the Samagi Jana Balavega, said in the Parliament that they are going to impose VAT again.
He also mentioned that the government says that tax revenue is essential, but there should be fairness in taxes.
He who commented further,
“We asked them to reconsider certain items that are taxed. The government said that amendments will be presented when the bill is debated. We should pay attention to the things that are necessary for food nutrition. VAT has also been imposed on them. VAT has also been imposed on fertilizers. VAT has also been imposed on diesel. Many hospitals don’t do tests because they don’t have the equipment.”
