Yesterday (13th) at around 7.00 am, a bus carrying nearly 40 passengers from Galnawa to Colombo was driving in an unsafe manner through the Alawwa Yangal Modara railway line on the Colombo-Kurunegala route. It is reported that the Polgahawela traffic police said that they have been taken into police custody.
It is said that the relevant bus driver was arrested on the charges of attempted murder by recklessly driving the bus through the railway crossing.
Even though the warning lights installed at this crossing were lit, the bell was ringing and the security gate was also being closed, they tried to drive the bus across the railway track at the same time and after seeing the train coming, the bus stopped.
