THE COMMISSIONER OF EXCISE GIVES AN UNDERTAKING BEFORE THE COURT.

It is reported that the Commissioner General of Excise gave a pledge before the Court of Appeal today (24) that he will make sure that liquor licenses are issued in accordance with the directives contained in the gazette notice issued by the minister in charge of soft liquor licenses in tourist areas.

Two writ petitions were called today (24) alleging that soft liquor licenses that should be issued for tourist zones have been issued to areas outside of them, and the Deputy Solicitor General Mrs. Kanishka Silva, who represented the Commissioner General of Excise, gave this pledge.

The petitions filed by two parties, including the Sri Lanka Liquor Licensing Association, challenging the relevant gazette announcement, were summoned today (24) before the bench of judges consisting of Mr. Justice Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne and Mr. Chamath Morayas, President of the Court of Appeal.
