It is reported that a large number of local residents blocked the Kataragama-Buttala road on the Konkatiya border to protest against the death of a woman after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Konkatiya village officer’s domain on the Kataragama-Buttala road.
They were engaged in agitation saying that no matter how much damage the elephants cause to human lives and property on a daily basis, the responsible departments including the wildlife officials will not provide a permanent solution to it. A large number of vehicles coming from far away areas for pilgrimage to Kataragama and vehicles going from Kataragama to Buttala Monaragala. It is said that a number were queuing on both sides of the road.
It is reported that the Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the area and the Divisional Secretary came to the place and discussed with the protesting group and then settled the protest.
