The Kataragama police have arrested two people who tried to give poisoned fruits to an elephant in a temple in Kataragama area and the police headquarters has announced that investigations have been started to arrest another person.
It is reported that after giving fruits to an elephant named “Asela” which was staying in a temple in Kataragama area on the 19th, mucus was flowing from the mouth of the elephant.
However, after examining the elephant, the veterinarians have stated that the elephant has eaten something mixed with poison, but the poison has not spread throughout the body.
Then Athgovwa has submitted a complaint to the Kataragama Police regarding the incident.
After the investigations conducted there, one person was arrested and he has mentioned that he mixed poison in a watermelon and gave it to the elephant on the basis of a contract given by the elephant farmer who was taking care of the elephant.
According to this, another person has been arrested in connection with the incident and it is reported that the main suspect of the incident has fled from the Aethgovwa area, where the elephant was taken care of earlier.
