GMOA STRIKE BEGINS

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to launch a 24-hour one day strike from 08.00 am today (20) in all hospitals and medical institutions in five districts of the country.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) stated that the reason for the strike was to protest against the role of the Secretary to the Ministry of Health in granting post-internship appointments.

Accordingly, the strike has been extended to Mannar, Trincomalee, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya and Polonnaruwa districts.

Commenting further on this, Dr. Senal Fernando of the Government Physicians’ Association stated that patients have been inconvenienced due to the arbitrary actions of the Secretary of Health and the Deputy Director General, Dr. Wijesuriya, and that the President and the Prime Minister have now been informed in this regard.
