MAJOR GENERAL ATHULA GALAGAMAGE CALLS RAVANA

Retired Major General Galagamage contacted the Sri Rawana Lanka Media Network in response to a recent report by us entitled ‘Injustice to the Army Major’.

He very politely contacted us and said, “It would have been great if I had asked for some details before publishing the news.” It was stated that he had carried out the investigation on the orders of the former Army Commander and that the investigation report did not mention that Major Tharidhu Weerasinghe should lose his job or be punished. His report also stated that it was only appropriate to remove him from his current position in the Judo Association and to take up active service.

He further stated that he was not aware that Major Tharidhu Weerasinghe had been sacked and that Major Tharindu Weerasinghe was a very capable and challenging figure. He further stated that the work done by the Ministry of Sports in exposing fraud and corruption was a very good deed.

Major General Galagamage was a Brigade Commander who was in the second tier of the Eelam War. He is said to be a completely disabled war hero who was wounded on the battle front.

According to him, if Major Tharidhu Weerasinghe had not submitted a report calling for his removal from the Army and a recommendation for his punishment had not been made, how could he have been removed? If so, then a certain Army Commander has mistakenly removed him. It is not legally possible to remove such errors. Dictatorship does not require constitutional law or other legal regulations to function in a dictatorial manner.

If so, why was he removed from the Army? Was there any external influence ?. Did anyone at that time fear an Army Commander? Did this officer get fired for the same fear? We have problems. The answers to these questions are provided in the legal documents we receive. We look forward to preventing this from happening again in the Armed Forces. All public servants as well as all citizens should know that we all have to face the consequences of doing what we want or doing wrong to others, regardless of the law of the land and the laws of the military as well as other laws in the country.

We publish the name of retired Major General Galagamage on public documents and publish our news based on facts we see and on factual information or statements made by him or her on the legitimate request of another person. Many people have questions with our journalists when they go to inquire about other parties, so we do not make such inquiries, but if they give an answer after the publication, we are obliged to post the same.

Therefore, we deeply regret any inconvenience caused to retired Major General Galagamage. However, if Major Tharidhu Weerasinghe returns a statement regarding this incident, we will have to publish it as well.
