MORE ABOUT OMICRON

Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Director, Institute of Allergy and Immunology and Cell Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, points out that the new variant of Kovid, Omicron, is not spreading rapidly in Sri Lanka and Europe.

He wrote in a note on his Twitter account that this information about Omicron was revealed by an investigation conducted by a team of South African scientists.

According to Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, tests performed by South African scientists have shown that the booster vaccine has the potential to protect against the omicchron virus, although it does not respond to immunizations.

However, Dr. Chandima Jeewandara has further stated that no definite conclusion can be drawn about the Omichron variant so far and that more time and data are needed for that.
