More aid from the European Union

The European Union has taken steps to provide an amount of 1.5 million euros as humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka.
The European Union points out that the aid was given as a response to the socio-economic crisis affecting the people of this country.
The aid money is to be given for the immediate needs of the people such as food, health, education and security and the aid is to be given to the most vulnerable family units.
European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management Janus Lenachik points out that the food security of millions of people in Sri Lanka is under threat and is facing a socio-economic crisis.
He further stated that through this new humanitarian fund, the European Union hopes to provide support to the most vulnerable people.
