Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Board Electrical Engineers’ Association Eranga Kudahewa says that the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant is at risk of malfunctioning due to a shortage of spare parts.
He added that the second and third generators of the plant had not undergone annual maintenance for about two years and were expected to complete the work next month but were unable to do so due to a shortage of spare parts.
He also said that in the face of the foreign exchange crisis, it has not been possible to open letters of credit for the purchase of spare parts worth US $ 43 million.
