Thirteen backbenchers of the government have made a request to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
To form an interim government with all parties to resolve the crisis in that country.
Government sources said that the MPs had met the President at the President’s House in Fort recently and handed over a letter in this regard.
They have also demanded that a cabinet representing all parties be appointed under a new Prime Minister.
It is reported that these 13 MPs represent a group of backbenchers in the government. It is learned that the MPs have informed in the letter that if they do not take action to form an interim government, they too will have to make decisions according to their conscience.
