We saw Buddhika de Silva, the convener of the Ceylon Traditional Coconut Oil Producers Association, having a social media discussion with veteran journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema recently.
The main issue that has been the subject of controversy in the country in recent days is the issue of importing poisonous coconut oil.
There was a lot of talk about this during the discussion and Mr. Buddhika de Silva stated that it could be confirmed that the local coconut oil does not contain this toxin called aphalotoxin.
However, the claim that imported coconut oil is refined and that it does not contain the aphalotoxin chemical is untrue.
He points out that the reason for this is that the waste oil is imported to Sri Lanka.
He also states that the government is being deceived by the fraudulent importers who are preparing fake data by contacting the officials and showing it to the government.
It must be remembered that whoever commits such devastation leaves a black mark on the government as well as the people of our own country.
Speaking further Mr. Buddhika de Silva pointed out that even the Minister who is in charge of the industrial sector has been hampered in implementing the decisions by now and although the Minister had a strong desire to develop the local industry, there was no room for it from various quarters.
