President responds to Sajith.

The President has sent a letter in response to a letter sent by Sajith Premadasa to the President regarding his assumption of the post of Prime Minister and the formation of a new government.

The President points out that he first invited Sajith Premadasa to take over as the Prime Minister of a new interim government. In the relevant letter, the President has emphasized that Sajith Primadasa had informed him that he was not ready for that and that a decision would be announced after discussions.

The letter further stated that he had decided to appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe, a senior politician who had previously served as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, on several occasions for a speedy solution to the problem of the background in which he himself had refused to accept the post of Prime Minister.

However, the President has further stated in the relevant letter that if finding a solution to the current economic and political crisis is a national interest and that any member of your party agrees to be included in the forthcoming cabinet, he should be informed immediately.
