The Meteorological Department has requested fishermen not to engage in fishing activities in the sea area from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankesanthurai during the next 24 hours.
Fishermen and naval personnel in other sea areas have also been advised to remain vigilant.
The Meteorological Department said that the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal northeast of Sri Lanka will move towards the west and enter the northern Tamil Nadu coast adjacent to southern Andhra Pradesh today.
The Met Department also forecast heavy showers in the North, North Central, North Western, Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces as well as in the Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts.
