Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that it was decided to temporarily close the Sapugaskanda oil refinery.
The Minister stated in a special statement in the Parliament that the reason for this was that the third crude oil ship brought to Sri Lanka could not be landed due to the lack of foreign exchange.
However, the minister further stated that the people should not have undue fear about this as the Petroleum Corporation currently has sufficient fuel stocks.
The Minister also mentioned that the central bank has the ability to release fuel as it has been in the past period without any deficit using the money provided weekly to the petroleum legalized corporation.
Sapugaskanda closes again.
