The Colombo Stock Exchange Price Index has increased by 80% in the year 2021 and the public share issue has also seen a record increase.
At the end of 2021, the overall index stood at 12,226, setting a new record, while at the end of 2020, the overall index closed at 6,774.02.
Thus its growth can be stated as 80.5%.
The stock market traded for 249 days in 2021, during which time foreign investors sold 51.8 billion rupees worth of shares.
The value of shares sold by foreigners in the previous year was Rs. 22 billion and Rs.
However, CEO of the Colombo Stock Exchange Rajiva Bandaranaike said that companies had been able to raise Rs. 118 billion through public share issues last year.
