The newly appointed Minister of State for Defense Hon’ble Pramitha Bandara Thennakoon assumed office today (Sep 12) amid religious blessings at a lavish ceremony held at the Ministry of State for Defense at the premises of the Colombo Disaster Management Centre.
The new Minister of State for Defense who arrived at the premises was received by the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense General Kamal Gunaratne.
Appointed as the Minister of State for Defense by the President Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, he was sworn in before the President last Thursday (8) at the President’s Office in Colombo.
A young politician in Sri Lanka, he has worked as a Member of Parliament, a former Minister of Central Provinces and previously as a Cabinet Minister for Ports and Shipping.
He stated that he will carry out this duty assigned by the President with dedication and emphasized that it is necessary to work with patience and understanding to bring about national security, rule of law and political stability in order to save the country from the current economic crisis.
Former Minister and Member of Parliament Honorable Janaka Bandara Thennakoon, Honorable Member of Parliament Madhura Withanage, Chief of Defense Staff, Commanders of the Three Armed Forces, Additional Secretaries of the Ministry of Defense and State Ministry of Defence, Director Generals of Sri Lanka Coast Guard Department, Civil Defense Department and Disaster Management Center participated in this event. .
