Upland Marriage and Divorce Amendment

A Udara Marriage and Divorce Amendment Bill will be gazetted.
The relevant bill has been gazetted as per the instructions of the Minister for Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms.
The new bill removes the requirement to obtain the consent of a competent authority for the marriage of a minor and thus makes the minimum age of marriage 18 years for all subject to the law of the land.
On the 1st of August last, approval was received to prepare the Udara Marriage and Divorce Amendment Bill, which is to be submitted to the Parliament for adoption in the near future.
