It was reported that a village official was arrested by the police for throwing an 8-year-old child into a canal.
This incident has been reported from Polgahawela area and the Udapola Village Officer of Polgahawela has been arrested on suspicion of the incident.
Preliminary investigations have now revealed that the injured child was watching an elephant bathing from a bank of the canal and the concerned village official, who came along the bank drunk, picked up the child and threw him into the canal.
It is reported that the child in question suffered a fracture.
Thus, the 54-year-old suspect village officer is scheduled to be produced in court today.
