Will the presidential preference system be changed?

President Ranil Wickramasinghe has indicated that he will propose a selection committee to decide on the parliamentary voting system, and if the selection committee fails to present a decision by July next year, a referendum will be held.
The President mentioned this in a meeting held with professionals at the Presidential Office yesterday morning (09).
In the meantime, the President further pointed out that the majority of the country rejects the existing political system, so the political change they want should be brought about, and accordingly, before the next election, the number of councilors for local government bodies should be reduced from 8,000 to 4,000 and the “Jana Sabha” program should also be implemented. Hope so.
The President has further indicated in the discussion that the main cause of political corruption is this preferential system, and we should immediately go to the election system with the list system without preferences or a mixed system, and the election law should impose limits on the money spent on the election. .
