President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa inspected the renovation work of the Ehelepola Walawwa located on King Street in Kandy which has a history of more than 400 years.
Ehelepola Walawwa is a building that was used as a prison cell and later as a remand prison during the British colonial period. It has been taken over by the Urban Development Authority and development has commenced under the supervision of the Department of Archeology.
All the construction work of this building of historical value has been done in a manner that does not damage the ancient design of the palace which existed in the early period.
Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela was also present at the occasion when the President instructed him to complete the renovation work as soon as possible.
