Our correspondents say that the people of the area have started a massive agitation by blocking the Ratnapura – Embilipita main road.
The protest is being held in the Kalkoriya Junction area in Colombageara and the residents of the area have stated that the reason for this is the opening of a quarry in the Sankapala mountain reserve.
According to our correspondent, the main objective of the protest is to bring the Ratnapura District Secretary and the Embilipitiya Divisional Secretary to the site and obtain a promise to close the quarry.
It is reported that a large traffic jam has occurred on the Ratnapura – Embilipitiya main road due to the protest.
