The gazette notification banning the use and sale of five types of pesticides including glyphosate in several parts of the island has been canceled.
The relevant Gazette Notification was issued by the then Registrar of Pesticides on 22nd December 2014. According to the Gazette Notification, the use, sale and sale of glyphosate, propanyl, carbaryl, clofferephosphate, carbofuran, 05 types of pesticides has been banned in several areas.
Accordingly, these pesticides were banned in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Moneragala districts and Kandeketiya Divisional Secretariat.
However, the present Registrar of Pesticides has issued a gazette notification revoking the earlier gazette notification.
Accordingly, the old gazette notification 1894/4 has been canceled.
It is reported that the Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage has informed the Secretary to the Ministry to inquire from the Registrar of Pesticides in this regard.
