The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the low pressure area in the south of the island.
It showed that the lower atmosphere was likely to develop into a low pressure area over the next 24 hours.
The Meteorological Department said that strong winds of 40-50 kmph and gusts of up to 60 kmph are expected in the sea areas at times.
Due to this, fishing and naval activities have been advised not to be allowed in the deep sea areas off the coast from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota until further notice.
The Meteorological Department has also warned those who have gone to sea from those areas to return to land or to a safe place immediately.
