According to Al Jazeera correspondent Jonah Hull, reports from the western Ukrainian city of Lviv indicate that reports of deadly Russian attacks on the eastern city of Kharkiv are “truly disturbing.”
Mr Hull told Al Jazeera that the city’s most densely populated civilian neighborhoods in the northeast had been hit hard by a number of high-rise buildings and the like.
He says “there is no doubt that these are just targeted attacks on civilian neighborhoods.”
“There are a lot of pictures on social media suggesting the use of explosions and the Grid rocket attack, while others show aerial bombings and many more showing secondary explosions and use. It’s all cluster munitions, “he said.
Meanwhile, the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom have agreed to block selected Russian banks from the SWIFT system, which facilitates the movement of thousands of banks and other financial institutions around the world.
