An 08-year-old girl has died in a house fire in the Wewegedarawatta area in Weligama.
A fire had broken out in a room last night (30) and the roof of the house had collapsed and the girl who was sleeping in the room had been burnt to death, police said.
Her grandmother and 13-year-old sister were sleeping in a nearby room when the fire broke out and they ran out of the house and survived.
Weligama Police brought in Matara fire engines to control the fire and the cause of the fire has not been revealed yet.
Police said there was no damage to the gas cylinder, gas stove or other appliances in the house.
Investigations so far have revealed that the fire was not caused by gas and a post mortem will be conducted after a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Weligama Police are conducting further investigations.
