A duel has reportedly erupted between China and the United States over the world’s largest natural corundum blue sapphire gem, known as the Queen of Asia, discovered in Sri Lanka.
The Queen of Asia’s Corundum Blue Sapphire is currently being auctioned off at the International Gem Auction.
The gem is currently being bid for by the United Arab Emirates, and China, an Asian country, is reportedly in the process of acquiring the gem for Asia.
Sources say the United States is also bidding for the gem, which will be housed in a world – class museum in Washington.
The Queen of the Asia Gem was first found in a mine in the Balangoda area in Ratnapura about six months ago and is owned by the Gemological Institute and Research Pvt. Ltd.
